As I sit here wondering which of many things in my mind to talk about, I am struck by how much happens in a day, how much I learned yesterday. This morning the simple act of noticing a flowering plant that was given to me reminded me of one of yesterday’s themes: abundance. The plant’s small size is in contrast to its tremendous output. I don’t know what the name of the plant is, but it has a profusion of purple flowers, many hundreds of them that have been blooming with little or no effort from a small pot of dirt for over a week now.
I just got it. The two topics I was considering just blended. The abundance that is everywhere around me, and the absence of huge work/effort/pressure in creating it. That was the other topic that was so present for me yesterday, and got reflected back to me all day: huge change comes from small shifts and are not earthshaking events but quiet happenings that can arrive in moments, minutes, easily, quietly, gracefully.
It’s not in trying or struggling or putting in a tremendous amount of work, rather ‘it’ arrives like a bubble rising to the surface of a still pond which has chosen now to get our attention.
