Forgiveness is sweet

I left town for a three day wedding celebration in Ojai last Friday. It was a profound experience and I have many wonderful memories and impressions to sink into as I absorb all that went on. I could probably write a book on all that I learned and felt, and all the Signs I received.
One of the things the couple added to the ceremony was to have each person select a word, randomly, from a basket, with the instruction to meditate on the word as they walked out to the promontory point where the ceremony was held, an incredible vista of the entire valley from Meditation Mount. Each of the six words had been carefully chosen by the couple, each had a special meaning to one or the other of the couple, tying in their respective stories about how they found each other and how they unlocked each other.

I chose Forgiveness. Of course, I thought, I have been working on this for the last few months, consciously that is. I’ve been working on it most of my life…that’s another story. There is a long list of small forgiveness and a shorter list of big ones. And I’ve learned that my resistance in forgiving me is hooked to my forgiveness of others. If I release myself, I must also release them.

The last day was spent at Matilija Springs, a magical, Spiritual place. We were cleaning up before departure, and I something caught my eye. I picked it up. It was a small chocolate bar, beautifully wrapped. It had a word on it: Forgiveness. “That’s for me,” I said and felt in that moment that I had released my resistance.

I have in mind to ceremoniously eat it, perhaps tonight under the moon. It deserves a celebration for the confirmation of knowing that forgiveness is sweet.
